For Sophie

This year my birthday fundraiser is for Sophie.  I adopted her from the Denver Dumb Friends league.  Since we live back on Long Island I'm raising funds for Little Shelter, a no kill shelter that helps to find homes for all kinds of dogs and cats.

Please consider giving.

Sophie

My sweet Sophie's poor body has finally had enough.  We got back from Michigan to find that she was basically totally lame.  She could not walk without major assistance.  I know it wasn't easy for her to accept so much help.  She took great pride in taking care of everyone around her.

We've been together 14 years.  The first night she came home with me she was so scared.  I lied down with her on the floor and hugged her and talked with her and she settled down.  After that night she made it her mission to take care of me.

She was a big mushy mush dog for those she loved.  But if you were a stranger at her door there was a good chance you'd be scared.  I've had many a note left by deliver or repair people letting me know that Sophie frightened them and could I maybe keep her away from the doors or windows when they arrived.

She was so very sweet and always with me.  Doesn't matter where in the house I went she was right by my side.  I will miss her, I will always love her.

1L

That's what I am, 1L.  I am a first year law student and in a twist of logic I will still be a first year law student next fall.  I am in the five year program at Touro Law Center.  Its harder then I expected it would be.  I am taking 3 classes so I'm in school Tuesday thru Thursdays.  There is reading and reading  and even more reading.   My books are so bloody heavy that I drag luggage through the halls

I do like the law library.  Its more comfortable then I expected it would be.  Plus it smells like books and I do have that little book problem.

I'm still at the gym in the mornings.  I see a new trainer twice a week and I switch up my cardio so it stays interesting.  I think its time to get new weights for the aqua class too, it feels a little too easy.

With everything going on I decided it would be in my best interests to take on two new software projects that need to be up and running by the start of tax season.

I am having a hard time dealing with eating and school.  I can't figure out a good system for handling dinner.  I eat at all different times and in different places.  I don't have a ton of time to cook in advance and fast food is out of the question.  I like grabbing things from Whole Foods for lunch but its really out of the way when it comes to dinner.  I'll figure it out, its just annoying.

Time to get back to the research for my open memo.

Procrastination

I have to write an essay.   Its the last piece of my application for law school.  I started one essay but the topic was wrong.  Now I'm starting all over.  I would wonder if there's some deep reason I can't seem to start this but I'm more than sure I'm just not up for the hard work of writing 500 words.

I'm a pansy.

Lifeguards

My gym has lifeguards at the pool.  Its a nice safety feature if you are swimming and somehow start to drown in four and a half feet of water.  I'm sure it could happen.

Most of the lifeguards really pay no attention to my aqua class and honestly who would  We stand upright for 99.99% of the class.  Yes there's a risk that any one of the octogenarians could have a heart attack and drown but then the lifeguards would have to put their cell phones down and get in the water.  That's so not happening.

But there's one kid who takes his job very seriously.  He is so serious that he once closed the whirlpool spa because the chlorine level was high.  No one dares close the spa.  That's like high treason to sexagenarians in speedos.  But the one thing that gives me pause is that he gets IN the water with us during class with his Baywatch floatation device.  I wonder what he thinks when he sees us.

Rules for the pool

There are certain rules one should follow when taking an aqua class

Do not wear a scent.  No matter how good it smells out of the water when mixed with chlorine in a humid environment it is very gross.

Do not wear makeup.  I don't want that in my pool water.

No matter how old you are most men do not look okay in a speedo.  After the age of 70 no man looks good in a speedo.  I promise.

If you qualify for the early bird specials then please make sure your suit fits.  I have seen more than my fair share of senior citizen privates.

The sign on the sauna clearly states you must have clothing on.  Please see above.

Do not yap through the entire class, the room with the pool is poorly designed and I can't hear the instructor as it is.  I don't need to hear about how ungrateful your son is.  Its enough work to be someone's ungrateful daughter.

Find a way to be in the class with some sort of hearing device.   Makes it easier when you can hear what's going on around you.

Slower traffic to the right.
